Experience Corps Southeast Texas (originally known as Seniors for School) began as a demonstration grant in the 1995-96 school year in the Port Arthur School District.  As part of the demonstration grant we were one of the original five sites nationally awarded funds to began this program. Our local program ( which is the only program of its kind in the state of Texas), began in Port Arthur Independent School District with seveenteen volunteers serving in two elementary.  We have now expanded to 37 volunteers serving in all eight elementaty schhols in the Port Arthur School District.

Experience Corps South East Texas is one of thirteen programs of its kind in the country.  Experience Corps Programs are located in Boston, Massachetus / Kansas City, Missouri / Minneapolis, Minnesota / New York, CSS / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania / Portland, Oregon / San Francisco, CA / Washington, DC / Baltimore / Cleveland / Indianapolis, Port Arthur, Texas and our newest program in Arizona. Our national office is located in Washington D.C. under the direction of Civic Ventures Inc.

Since the inception of Experience Corps in the 1995 ? 1996 school year the volunteers have provided one on one tutoring to students that have been identified by their teachers as the lowest performing students or students at risk of failure.
