Background of 2-1-1 Southeast TX
The resilient communities that make up Southeast Texas have survived Hurricane Ike, (2008) and have grown in recent time to understand that 2-1-1 can do so much more than just pre-register folks onto the state Transportation Registry (TAR).
Call volume has exploded from this understanding, and has promoted 2-1-1 Southeast TX’s ranking from a medium center to a large center within the 2-1-1 Texas network of 25 total centers. These 25 centers work together in providing all Texans with continuous 24/7, 365 days a year service — even in the midst of a hurricane or other disaster.
The geographical area in which 2-1-1 Southeast TX serves is Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange Counties. Adjacent counties are served by other 2-1-1 centers in Texas, which are still accessible by simply dialing 2-1-1 from those counties.
Southeast TX’s 2-1-1 was second in the state and seventh in the nation to be accredited in 2001 by the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems. Each 2-1-1 in the nation is independently operated and funded. 2-1-1 Southeast TX is a program of the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
