Area Agency on Aging (AAA)
Mission Statement
The Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Texas, located at the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission, is responsible, under Title III of the Older Americans Act, for the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated service system to: Secure and maintain maximum independence and dignity in a home environment for older individuals capable of self care with appropriate supportive services; Remove individual and social barriers to economic and personal independence for older individuals; and Provide a continuum of care for the vulnerable elderly.

Departments and Services
Benefits Counseling
- Helps you understand the benefits available if you receive Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security benefits, and/or insurance coverage.
- Provides case management to secure temporary, non-medical services such as personal care, home-delivered meals, caregiver relief, home maker/light housekeeping, health maintenance (items such as incontinence supplies and liquid meal supplements) and emergency response devices.
- Provides case management to assess the needs of a caregiver and care recipient, develop a plan of action based on these needs, and arrange, coordinate and follow-up on services, which most appropriately meet the identified needs as mutually defined by the caregiver, the care recipient, and the AAA staff.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
- Provides trained, certified volunteers to protect and promote awareness of residents’ rights in long-term care facilities.
Senior Nutrition Services
