Seniors for Child Immunizations PDF Print E-mail

Since 1994, members of the Golden Triangle RSVP have been educating new parents regarding the importance of infant immunizations through the Seniors for Childhood Immunization (SCI) project.  A senior volunteer visits each of the area's four hospitals, delivering information about immunizations and registering new parents for an immunization reminder system.  Our office mails a reminder postcard to the parents advising them to obtain the next round of immunizations at 2, 4, 6, and 12 months of age, respectively.  There were 4,982 babies born in Jefferson and Orange Counties in 2004.  Of these babies, our volunteers registered 3,237 infants into the SCI project.

Volunteering in the SCI project requires a minimum of 2 hours at least one day per week.

Participating Hospitals:

Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, Beaumont

Christus St. Elizabeth
